Tips for Finding the Best Golf Coach

When looking for an instructor, most golfers would start their search in golf courses that are nearest to them. In most cases, they would take lessons from any of the pros at the golf course where they spend most of their time in. While there is nothing wrong in seeking help from instructors near your area, there is no guarantee that these instructors would help you take your game to the next level.

If improving your game is important to you, then you need to choose your golf instructor carefully. Here are some tips for finding the best golf coach.

Consider your needs

Most golfers take golf lessons without even considering what they want to get out of it. In order to get the most out of your golf lessons, it is important that you ask yourself why you need golf lessons in the first place.

Do you want to reach a certain level of handicap? Do you have a specific goal? Do you want to increase driver stance? Do you have a slice, hook or short game problem? Take these things into consideration when choosing a golf instructor. This way, it would be easier for you to search for the right instructor who can help you reach your goals.

PGA or LPGA accreditation

When seeking a golf professional to help you with your game, make sure that person has the experience and education to take your game to the next level. In this case, we strongly suggest that you choose an instructor who is a member of the LPGA or PGA. You cannot get any better instruction than from someone with an active accreditation with the LPGA or PGA. They have a good deal of expertise in the game and have the ability to teach the basics in an understandable way. They have already given lots of golf lessons and are continuously being exposed to up-to-date golf teaching practices.

Before taking lessons, you want to make sure that you connect with the instructor. Of course, there is no way to tell whether or not you’ll have a good relationship unless you spend time with that person. Call the instructor and ask if they can talk to you about your game and improvement goals. Here, you’d be able to gauge if you’ll get along. Look for someone who you enjoy spending time with. After all, you’ll be spending a lot of time together.

4 Ways to Improve Pace of Play

Most golfers go out to the golf course to relax and unwind. But considering how much time it takes to finish the game, a lot of golfers make the decision not to play. This is especially true for golfers who are living ridiculously busy lives. I am one of them.

Most golfers play too slow. However, nobody wants to admit that slow play is their fault. No matter how much you deny it, I’m here to tell you that everyone is guilty of it.

In the hopes of improving pace of play, we have compiled some tips and suggestions that will help speed up the game a little. Maybe you can pass them on to golfers who could really use them. Here are 4 ways to improve your pace of play.

Keep up with the group in front of you

To help keep play moving at a brisk pace, try to keep up with the group ahead of you. Get going after hitting your shot. Remember, your place on the course should be behind the group in front of you, not in front of the group behind you.

Be helpful to others in your group

If there is a lost ball, you can help your playing partner find the ball while the others are hitting their shots. But please try not to spend too much time searching for the ball. Never spend more than 5 minutes looking for a lost ball.

Keep your pre-shot routine short

We all know that pre-shot routines are essential before every shot, but it doesn’t have to take forever. If your pre-shot routine involves making practice shots, you are free to do so. But please limit your practice shot to one or two. You are free to take as many practice swings as you want while waiting for your turn.

If your pre-shot routine is quite lengthy, then you might want to shorten it a bit. If possible, try to hit your shot within 20 seconds. From club selection to pre-shot routine to execution, everything should be done within 20 seconds.

Plan your shot before you get to your ball

To prevent unnecessary frustration from the group behind you, we suggest that you use the time to get to your ball to prepare for your next shot. Also, make your club selection and determine your yardage while waiting for your turn. Small things like this can significantly improve pace of play.

Do You Really Need To Wear Golf Shoes?

When we think of golf equipment, golf clubs, balls, and bag are the first things that come to mind. After all, you can’t play golf without them. Some players even make it a point to upgrade their equipment in the hopes of improving their game. However, most golfers tend not to put much thought in selecting their footwear.

Just because some courses allow players to wear sneakers or rubber shoes, it doesn’t mean that you don’t need to get golf shoes. This is fine if you’re just trying out the game. But if you’re looking to play golf on a weekly basis, then we recommend that you buy one.

Here are some of the reasons why you should invest in a good pair of golf shoes.

A golf game usually takes about 4 to 5 hours. During the game, golfers will have to stand and walk the majority of the time. If you’ll be playing 18 holes, you’ll be walking a distance of about 5 to 6 miles. Some would even carry their golf bags while walking the course. As such, it is important to wear something you’ll be comfortable in.

Today’s golf shoes are made from lighter and suppler materials. This means they are more comfortable for the golfers. We also recommend getting golf shoes that are waterproof, so your feet stays dry even in wet conditions. If you’re not wearing a pair of comfortable shoes, your golf game will suffer. It will be difficult for you to produce good shots if all you think about is how painful your feet are.

Golfers need shoes with spikes prevent their feet from moving as they swing the club. The spikes provide stability and more traction. They help golfers get a toe hold, preventing their feet from slipping or sliding during a golf swing. Cleated shoes are especially important if you’re playing on a wet, hilly course.

During the earlier times, golfers used to wear shoes with metal spikes. Later on, courses banned the use of metal spikes as they tend to ruin the greens. Because of this, manufacturers have decided to do away with the metal spikes and replace them with soft plastic spikes. This will help preserve the condition of the greens while still providing players the stability they need.

Reasons Why Golf is the Best Sport in the World

Arguments take place from all over the world as to which sport is the best. If you are a soccer player, you probably think that soccer is the best. If you are a basketball player, we bet you believe that basketball is the best of them all. Here at Golfer’s Jewel, we firmly believe that golf is the best sport. In fact, we don’t just see it as a sport. Rather, we see it as a way of life.

Here are our top reasons as to why golf is the best sport in the world.

No age limit

Golf is a sport that can be enjoyed by anyone, young or old. Because golf has no age limit, every golf club has its junior or senior section. If you frequent the course, you are likely to see a lot of seniors. You may also see kids playing on the course with their parents. Tiger Woods, for instance, started playing golf when he was just 2 years old.

It doesn’t matter if you’re 40 or 50. If you want to start playing golf, you are free to do so. It’s never too late to start playing golf.

Health benefits

We all know that sports are a great form of exercise. Unlike other forms of exercise, golf doesn’t just hep you stay fit and burn calories, it also brings about a lot of health benefits.

A regular round of golf involves a lot of walking. This reduces your risk of high blood pressure, diabetes and heart diseases. In order to reap the heart-health benefits, it is best to keep the pace as brisk as possible.

Golf’s powerful combination of outdoor exercise, fresh air and camaraderie help relieve stress. This is one of the reasons why a lot of executives and businessmen play golf during their spare time. This, combined with a healthy lifestyle and diet, can bring you some impressive health and wellbeing benefits.

You can drink while you play

Unlike other sports where drinking is usually reserved after the game, golf is a sport where you can drink while you play. Golf is laid back enough that you can grab some beers while playing with your buddies. Of course, moderation is advised while on the course. You wouldn’t want to get inebriated and act foolish on the course.

The courses are amazing

Compared to other mainstream sports, golf has no equal in terms of setting. Sure, some baseball stadiums may provide some great views of city skyscrapers, but these don’t measure up to the breathtaking views that most golf courses offer.

There are thousands of course in the country that flow through parkland views, the wind through forests or jut into the ocean. All of which offers breathtaking views and an amazing golf experience. Since every golf course is different, you won’t get bored playing the same course over and over again. You’ll get a completely different experience when you play in a different golf course.

Top Tips to Prevent Golf Injuries

Although golf is a low-impact sport, golf injuries are quite common. In fact, more than 131,000 individuals were treated for golf-related injuries in 2015 alone. The shoulder, hand, wrist, elbow and the lower back are the most commonly injured areas. More often than not, these injuries are brought about by poor swing mechanics, bad posture or overuse.

Despite the significant number of injuries, we’d like to emphasize that these injuries are avoidable. Here are some tips on how to prevent golf injuries. Play it safe with these tips.

Warm up

Warm up is important before engaging in any type of sports, golf included. It gets your blood flowing, your muscles loose and prepares your body for more intense activity. Most importantly, it helps prevent injuries and improves your golf game.

Do some stretching exercises before playing golf. Focus on your shoulders, back, arms and legs. It is also a good idea to visit the driving range to hit a few shots before teeing off. Start with the wedge and work your way up to the driver.

Proper swing technique

Golfers with poor swing mechanic have an increased risk of injury. This is because of the excessive stress that is placed on their elbows, shoulders, and back. To avoid golf injuries, it is imperative that golfers develop a solid swing technique. One of the best ways to do this is by taking some golf lessons.

Be sun smart

Playing golf is very invigorating. You’re able to enjoy the fresh air, the warmth of the sun and enjoy the breathtaking views while playing your favorite sport. However, staying outdoors for an entire afternoon without sun protection can result in the skin burning pretty quickly.

With the weather heating up, it is important to wear sunscreen before your game. Use SPF30 or higher to keep you protected from the sun’s harmful rays. Try to stay in shade whenever possible. We also advise that you wear a hat to keep your hair and scalp from getting pummelled by the sun.
